It 'a natural glass, typical of limited volcanic areas including the' island of Lipari. And 'gray, almost black and translucent. The subject of intense commercial exploitation in the Mediterranean basin, was used before the discovery of metals, for the manufacture of tools and weapons. The Aeolian exported it in Sicily and along the Tyrrhenian routes, up to France and Spain.
